Finally, SSG Sal Giunta is officially going to be first live MOH winner

It was about 24 hours ago that I put up a blog posting about the 3rd Medal of Honor for Afghanistan being officially announced, but of course it was posthumously. I talked about Green Beret SSG Robert Miller and provided a link to the story about his family that will be accepting this award on his behalf. I am hoping to have more about SSG Miller in the near future.

However I am also very pleased to announce that the White House announced today that Medal of Honor #4 for Afghanistan is official and should be presented soon. SSG Sal Giunta whom I wrote about here, http://www.bouhammer.com/2010/07/restrepo-part-ii/ will be the first living Medal of Honor recipient since the Vietnam War. If you want to read about his actions in detail, I strongly suggest you pick up a copy of Sebastian Junger’s book, WAR.
