President Obama recently stated that he doesn’t necessarily think we need a “VICTORY” in Afghanistan to be successful. So I wanted to poll my readers and hear what you think. Do you think we can do what is needed in Afghanistan without a victory over the Taliban? Do you think that there are only two outcomes to war, win or lose? Here is your chance to be heard.
Is achieving Victory important in Afghanistan?
- Yes, nothing less is acceptable (83%, 43 Votes)

Define victory?
Isn’t victory achieved when opposition is unable to continue?
I sure hope we can win in Afghanistan with or without anyone’s definition of victory.
Thanks for the blog Bouhammer, it’s a great service to us over here who want to learn more about what’s going on than short news-blurbs.

Victory, from the Americna Heritage Dictionary:
1. Defeat of an enemy or opponent.
2. Success in a struggle against difficulties or an obstacle.
3. The state of having triumphed.
By the definition, victory equals success. It’s needed.
“Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be” (Winston S. Churchill).

If I look at the history of Afghanistan — –the people paid a great price during those times it was overtaken. Was it victory? I think it was to the assorted victors.
If I look at it from the POV of ridding the country of the Taliban, I wonder –was this the original objective? So victory gets murky, as best I can tell. I hope that we are working toward giving the people an option of a better life.
Is it needed? Yes, it is.
Is the world willing to work on it over the long haul? I’m not so sure.

I also subscribe to the Onion. When I first read this, I thought it was one of their stories. Are you kidding…winning without victory. That is rich. Good one.

By the way, love your blog. I enjoy reading a different point of view than the traditional media. Their stories are so off base coming from third or forth person. I like that it’s clear when you post your opinion as opposed to reporting events. And when reporting events, you seem to try to get the ground truth…from some one there if possible. Keep up the good work.

How can one say victory is not needed for success? That doesn’t even begin to make sense; then again, consider the source. We’ve heard jackasses bray before; they all sound pretty much the same.
