Bad Economy=Higher Recruiting numbers?

Yep, week before last CJ asked me during the You Served Radio Show if I thought the bad economy would help recruiting efforts. I told him I did not think so because of the wars we have been in since 2001. However it looks like I could have been wrong. CJ was onto something when he asked me that. Not sure if he knew that at the time or not.
I still can’t see people sitting around home in America saying to themselves “well I lost my job at the plant today or in the office, I guess I will sign up and go kill a few AQI for mom and apple pie.”
If we were in a peace-time era right right now, then I would believe whole-heartily that un-employed, car-less, girlfriend-less guys like Bill Murray’s character in Stripes would be running for the local recruiters office. Maybe I am selling some Americans short? Maybe I am too pessimistic? Maybe I don’t know how bad the economy is, but it seems with the socialism programs put in by the democratic-led congress for the last few years and the continual hand-outs we are probably going to keep seeing, having a job ain’t neccesarily a bad thing. See what I mean by checking out CJ’s post at http://www.soldiersperspective.us/2008/10/11/im-leaving-the-army/
