Poles under fire

The main Polish battle group that is operating in Afghanistan operates in the battlespace that I was in. They were the only NATO country besides the British and the Canadians that really do fight over there in Afghanistan. I am saddened to see this story come out today, because I am sure it is not as bad as the MSM* claims. I have had several conversations with my old terps from my FOB and they have had nothing but praise for the Polish soldiers in that area and have given them full credit for the decrease in FOB attacks and other combat incidents in and around my old FOB.

I am sure there is an explanation for this incident and I just hope and pray that the entire truth does get out.

Deleted Post , but another way you can help

Well it did not take long to get several emails today telling me I has wrong information posted on my blog. Last night I posted an entry about sending a Christmas card to a wounded warrior at Walter Reed. I had several blog readers contact me today to inform me that Walter Reed has a policy against such action. I looked into it and they were correct.

You can read the official policy and statement here, www.wramc.amedd.army.mil/Lists/WRNews/DispForm.aspx?Id=25, so it is with a sad heart that I had to remove that blog entry and encourage anyone that was thinking about following my advice to cease and desist.

All I can say is that if you still find it in your heart to support a warrior (wounded or not), then you should check out, sign up and contribute through one of the following websites.

www.anysoldier.com
www.soldiersangels.com

Someone to add to your Christmas List

When you are making out your Christmas card list this year, please include the following:

A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue,NW
Washington,D.C. 20307-5001

I ask everyone who reads my blog to spread this word and let everyone know that you know to take the minute or so it takes to do this as it will make a huge and positive impact on one of our wounded warriors. If you TRULY do support the troops, then do more besides stick a ribbon magnet on the back of your car.

KQED Radio Show

Well the radio show I took part in on Monday went well. I was the only participant from Afghanistan and there were three other guests from Iraq. The theme of the show leaned a little further to the left that I would have liked, but I can’t say I was totally surprised. I mean it was on a San Francisco based radio station that does carry NPR. Both of those facts lead me to think it may be a tad liberal.

However when the discussion mentioned things like the war in Iraq being a criminal act and that it was all about oil, I was stunned. As I mentioned in the VAMC blog entry I wrote, if it was about oil then I am eagerly waiting for the $1.00 a gallon gas which I have yet to see. I cannot there are people that ignorant to believe the war in Iraq was about oil. I guess they are the same ones that think the attacks of 9/11 were staged by our own government too. Man this country is made up of all kinds. To read more about my experiences on the interview, be sure and check out my entry called Get a Life on the VAMC blog site.

If you would like to listen to the broadcast, but did not have the opportunity, you can check it out at www.kqed.org/programs/radio/forum/ as they have it archived there in mp3 and real media formats.

The American Hero Award

The following text is from the VA Mortgage Center Blog. I am re-printing it here in order to spread the word so anyone reading my blog can take the time to Nominate the Hero of their choice.

The VA Mortgage Center.com has launched a contest for honoring veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The American Hero Award, which comes with a prize of $5,000, will be awarded to the veteran who receives the most votes on the companyÂ’s website.

This year’s theme calls on citizens to “Honor Your Hero” by nominating friends and family members they think deserve to be recognized. Nominations will be accepted on the website until December 14, 2007. All nominations should explain why the nominee deserves to be recognized in 300 words or less.

Ten finalists will be selected and an open online vote will be used to determine the winner. Finalists will have their photograph and bios featured on the VA Mortgage Center.com voting page. Along with the $5,000 donation to the winning Veteran, VA Mortgage Center.com will be awarding $500 to each of the ten finalists.

Visit our Honor Your Hero page now to nominate a Veteran!
